The Burlington Amateur Radio Club, in cooperation with the Burlington Sailing and Boating Club and the Burlington Power and Sail Squadron will offer a Basic Amateur Radio Course beginning January 5th, 2008. The course will prepare participants to write the Industry Canada Basic Amateur Radio Certificate Examination and is being taught by boaters, for boaters. Amateur Radio is an excellent addition to marine VHF offering many options for ship to ship and ship to shore communication, local or world- wide. Many cruisers have learned the value of amateur radio wireless e-mail and Marine SSB. The course will be presented by Mark Richardson VA3OBO, an experienced sailor, and Herb Teather VA3HRB, an Industry Canada Examiner with other guest speakers. This course will emphasize the use of amateur radio in a marine environment and give you an introduction to the fascinating world of amateur radio. The course will last for 10 weeks, Saturday mornings at the BSBC clubhouse. A course fee of $75 includes training materials and the examination fee. The Radio Amateurs of Canada Basic Study Guide (recommended) will be available at an additional cost. If you plan to take advantage of this opportunity, contact Hugh McCully, Phone: 905-333-0826 e-mail: Hugh McCully , to get your name on the class list.
